JB White Foundation Gun Violence Awareness Scholarship
The JB White Foundation is pleased to announce a new scholarship opportunity for New Mexico students whose lives have been impacted by gun violence and who are pursuing education as a pathway toward healing, growth, and community leadership. The Gun Violence Awareness Scholarship will award 10 scholarships of $1,000 each to help students continue their education after high school or GED completion. Scholarship funds may be used for college tuition, trade school, certification programs, books, or other educational expenses. This scholarship recognizes the resilience of students who have experienced difficult circumstances and who are committed to building safer and stronger communities.

Who Can Apply
Students may apply if they meet the following criteria:
Education Status

Graduating high school senior, or
-
GED completion within the past 12 months
Applicants must plan to enroll within six months of receiving the scholarship in one of the following:

College or university
-
Community college
-
Trade or technical program
-
Certification or workforce training program

Connection to Gun Violence
​
Applicants must demonstrate a personal connection to gun violence, which may include:

Survivor of gun violence
-
Family member of a victim
-
Witness to gun violence
-
Loss of a loved one due to gun violence
-
Resident of a community heavily impacted by gun violence
-
Participation in trauma recovery or violence intervention programs
-
Advocacy or volunteer work related to gun violence awareness

Students will be asked to share their experiences in a personal essay, but graphic details are not required.

Application Requirements
Applicants will submit:

Personal Essay (750–1,200 words) describing their experience and educational goals
-
1 Letter of Recommendation (teacher, counselor, mentor, community leader, or employer)
-
Proof of eligibility
-Transcript or enrollment verification (high school seniors), or
-GED completion documentation
Optional materials such as artwork, poetry, or advocacy work may also be submitted.

Resilience and personal growth

Educational goals and motivation

Commitment to community awareness or prevention

Letter of recommendation
